Personal Takes
The book is really well written, and it mixes personal discomfort stories from the writter with scientific research.
Comfort seem to be the final boss we have to beat on the times we are living. We have comfort everywhere, and humans do not evolve comfortably.
It’s not about rejecting comfort altogether, but about finding a balance. We need to embrace discomfort, and use it as a tool to get better, to overcome obstacles, to let go of negative thoughts and emotions, to push ourselves out of our comfort zone.
I’m personally on a journey to find that balance, and this book has been a great inspiration. We can force oursevles to find discomfort in any are of our lives, and that’s what we need to do.
What are you mentally and emotionally willing to do to be a better human?
There are some simple things we can do to embrace discomfort:
- Regular exercise
- Meditation
- Long walks without phone/music -> Be alone with your thoughts
- Cold Showers
Boredom is good for the brain -> This is something that I want to explore more. It’s increasingly difficult to be bored these days. By thinking about this, I believe I can be more comfortable with being bored and not try to fill every moment with stimulation.
I will end this article with some quotes that I found inspiring:
Nothing is PermanentWe're all dyingWe need to think about deathNew events decelerate our perception of time
